Speak Up!
In the continuing theme of “getting the ball rolling,” one big change that I’ve made in the last couple of years (and continue to work on) is saying most of what I think about saying.
A lot of times you’ll be standing next to people you don’t know and in the midst of whatever is happening, you’ll think of something funny or witty to say, but then hold back because you’re breaking the “social convention” of not saying anything.
Well screw social convention! EVERYTIME, I’ve gone ahead and chimed in, I’ve ended up having a great interaction with a random stranger. The end result is that both of us end up feeling great!
Next time you step into an elevator, AT LEAST say hello to whoever’s in there, and if you get the inkling to say something, PIPE UP! Hell, if there’s a bunch of people cramed in the elevator, say something funny like, “Isn’t it interesting how elevator’s turn off our talk buttons despite being packed like sardines?”
